Papers, 1877 [and n.d.]

Collection contains a letter from Russell in which he writes to his cousin about the Christmas holidays, about favorable treatment from his publisher, Scribner's, and about his attempt to start a paper. The second item is a manuscript of his poem "Nine Graves in Edinb'ro" with editor's blue marks. Russell is known as the pioneer in the use of African-American dialect for literary purposes.
